The best source depends on the claim. Unmanned Innovation generally works through the following hierarchy and uses the most direct current material available.
- Current regulators, government agencies, enacted rules, dockets, waivers, advisory circulars, and official program documents
- Standards organizations and the exact applicable standard material available for citation
- Manufacturer manuals, specifications, support documentation, and release notes
- Peer-reviewed research and primary technical papers
- Official filings, program announcements, and attributable direct statements for company or program claims
- Reputable technical publications and named expert analysis
- Communities, forums, and videos only for clearly labeled experience patterns or research leads, not as proof of specifications, compliance, or broad failure rates
Claim-to-source discipline
A working claim map connects every material specification, rule, date, compatibility statement, program fact, technical performance claim, and third-party observation to evidence. Sources must support the exact scope of the sentence, not merely discuss the same subject.
A press release can establish what its issuer announced. It cannot by itself establish independent performance, market adoption, safety, or operational success. A maximum or laboratory figure is not restated as guaranteed field performance.
Evidence labels and uncertainty
- Verified fact: directly supported by an appropriate source.
- Attributed claim: reported as the source's statement, with the speaker or organization named.
- Third-party observation: reported with its limits and relevant context.
- Calculation: accompanied by assumptions, units, and enough method to reproduce it.

Citations and source notes
Citations are placed close enough to a material claim to make verification practical. Substantial articles end with a curated source list containing only material actually used and show a last-checked date when freshness matters.
Ordinary external editorial references open in a new tab and use nofollow and noopener under the current link policy. That implementation choice never justifies removing a necessary citation or replacing a precise source with a generic homepage.
Freshness and disagreement
Rules, guidance, software, specifications, company programs, and operating conditions can change. Time-sensitive claims are checked against current sources before publication and during substantive refreshes.
When reliable sources disagree, the article states the material disagreement, narrows the claim, or omits it. The publication does not manufacture certainty to produce a cleaner conclusion.
Research limits
